before you undergo IVIG therapy, be sure to have your doctor do a blood test for an IgA deficiency because if you have a deficiency, the IVIG treatment can throw you into anaphylactic shock and cause cardiac arrest. i had a neurologist at Mayo Clinic recommend me for IVIG treatment but luckily for me, a neurologist in Chicago knew i had the IgA deficiency and didn’t implement the IVIG treatment(he later spoke to the Mayo doctor at a meeting who said if he had known (which he would have if he had bothered to read my medical chart, he would not have recommended the IVIG treatment). We then spoke to a company that makes an IVIG treatment for people with an IgA deficiency but when we asked (i have a PhD in theoretical physics and a PhD in chemistry so i can have the technical competence to talk to doctors as an equal - which drives many of them nuts), they said they personally wouldn’t use their own product because there is no way of knowing how any one IgA deficient person will react to their product. They said that it was wiser for a person with an IgA deficiency to avoid undergoing IVIG therapy altogether. Unfortunately, i also react badly to corticosteroids so i take no treatment at all for my CIDP (which is advanced enough over the past 6 years that i have to use a power chair for mobility) except for cannabis to deal with leg spasms.
