New Book

FYI, today's New York Times contains a review of a new book entitled "An Epidemic of Absence: A New Way of Understanding Allergies and Autoimmune Diseases" by Moises Velasquez-Manoff. I believe you can access the review from the following link provided that you are either a New York Times subscriber or a non-subscriber who has not accessed more than four articles in the previous month.

There is also a radio interview with the author at the following website: http://www.wnyc.org/shows/lopate/2012/sep/06/understanding-allergies-and-autoimmune-diseases/

The premise of the book is that the epidemic is due to being too clean (because of antibiotics, disinfectants, sewage disposal technology, etc.). There is also evidence presented that even if you have an allergy or autoimmune disease, it may not be too late to benefit from exposure to some germs.
