Charlie, the drugs you mentioned I see neither of them related to cholesterol. Both seem to be blood pressure/heart related. My CIDP was allegedly cause by a cholesterol drug that was prescribed at 80 mg per day. I was taken off the drug immediately upon my first visit to a neurologists. Then I went on IVIG infusions and will forever. I adjusted my diet and incorporating red palm oil and coconut oil, etc., my lipids came into the normal range within 90 days. The infusions have taken my cane away, my pain away and balance is tolerable. My life is near normal now. I would like to refer you to information found in books by Dr. Fife on the benefits of coconut oil and red palm oil. Red palm oil in the diet will actually dissolve the cholesterol build up in arteries. I ingest a tablespoon a day in warm Bloody Mary mix. You can also see information from Dr. Fife at www.coconutresearchcenter.org. Good luck in getting it all figured out.

Cindy, We cook with coconut oil plus use it everywhere. Read coconut cures by Dr. Bruce Fife. I ingest it mixed with Red Palm oil in 8 oz. warm Bloody Mary mix, about a tablespoon each. It goes down very easily. We also cook with red palm oil, fried chicken is very good with it. It is good on popcorn. The wife has come up with some very good recipes. Try to take in about 3 tablespoons of each oil total each day. Our new diet is very low sugar and low carbs. This has controlled my Lipids very well. Coconut oil and Red Palm oil are medium chain fats and they don't collect in the body and cause fat to build. They are completely burned producing energy. I can't recommend Dr. Fife's books enough. He refers to actual studies in his books to back up what he says. We have found Red Palm oil made by Nutiva to be the best tasting. Dump your vegetable oil and start using these healthy oils. Sorry I got carried away with an answer to your question, but what I say is important as it goes against convention that has been around a long time. long enough to cause serious health problems in society for many years.

I will be available for more questions on Sunday as I'm leaving for Albuquerque for infusions in the morning.

Hi all friends in the USA.
I was diagnosed 5years ago with CIDP, (just 1 year before I was due to retire from 30yrs of Police Service).
I wanted to pass on some ‘positives’.
Firstly, this site had been such a help! Thank you to everyone who takes the time to contribute.
I continue to learn from all of you.
Secondly, I have always taken the view that 'it could have been worse, I could have been run over by a bus!'
Despite IVIG for 4 days every 5 weeks I’m fortunate to work for Local Government who are extremely supportive.
I will try to keep working 4 days a week until I know it’s time to either reduce or stop.
I first went into a wheelchair 4 years ago when I visited New York.
I rarely use a chair now, (preferring a wheeled walking frame), but this week my sister and I will be back in the Big Apple and a wheelchair will be essential.
It’s fabulous! Straight to the front of every queue!
The only thing that keeps me going is my mantra to look for the positives.
I hope this helps some of you.
Take care and stay strong x

Hi everyone.

I am compelled to just say thanks for the varied insights you have given us. Too many to answer individually. However, here is a common theme from which we are learning.

None of our consultations has resulted in a suggestion of a spinal tap. That sounds important, so we are discussing same with our primary. Several mentioned some adverse reactions to specific medications, and my wife uses one of them. We are going to look into that.

The willingness of you to share your experiences is comforting. I thanks all of you, and we will keep reading your posts for greater insight.

Warm regards,

CharlieR

Best of luck to you.

Unfortunately, welcome to the group. As you indicated i had all of the Stenosus and bulging disc issues. It took a while to diagnose, but i am now at least holding my own, (most days). One thing to be aware of is that Cholesterol lowering medicines can cause muscle breakdown, Rabdomyalyis.i got off of it and tried to work on diet For the pain, i use Tramadol, 1 300 mg ER and then 2 additional 50mg tabs as needed. With those additional Tramadols, I also take some acetametaphin. i then also take 50 mg of Lyrica twice daily.

I also get .6mg/kg of IVIG every three weeks. Seems to be a reasonable balance between relief and side effects. Still get several random days when the overall fatigue and pain put me in bed.

sorry that i don't have anything better. Seems like each one of us has things just a little different. Best thing to do is get a great Neurologist. mine has been really good working with me until we get something that works. No cure just a fight to try and stay a little ahead
