Any ideas for Christmas gifts for GB patient?

My brother has a fairly severe case of GBS. He has spent 3 weeks in ICU and 4 weeks with icu level care at a transitional care facility and is still on the trach and feeding tubes, etc. No end in sight for either of those yet but once he is weaned off those, he will still spend several months at a rehab facility after this hospital stay.

They told us Thanksgiving for him would likely be in May or so. That is when they expect him to actually be able to attend an event and eat food, for perspective on how far he has to go.

He is now able to fairly accurately use his pointer chart and can sit up with assistance for up to 2 hrs a day.

So all that said, we are wondering what Christmas gifts to give him. He cannot yet operate a remote or tablet device and he is super bored. Was there anything that helped you or your gb patient on the road to recovery that wasn’t covered by insurance? It seems silly to give him gift cards to his favorite computer store (which was what was on his Christmas list before the GB hit) if he won’t be able to utilize them till summer.

I was thinking maybe velcro shoes since I assume that shoe tying will be one of the last fine motor skills to return, any other ideas?

I realize that this is “just a bit” late but maybe he has a birthday coming up. A long shoe horn, one of those pick up sticks ( get a good one, the cheapies don’t work) a book written by a person with GBS. Those are things that I found so valuable for the first nine, ten months.
