EASTON — In recognition of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disorder Awareness Month, Talbot County Council President Dirck Bartlett will attend the Sept. 7 meeting of the Easton CMT Support Group to present a Talbot County Council proclamation designating this September 2013 at CMT
Awareness Month in Talbot County.

Jeana Sweeney, director of Community Services for the CMT Association, also will be at the meeting in the Talbot County Free Library, 100 Dover St., Easton, to share her experiences traveling across the country to present a school program about CMT in schools, where a student deals with the neuromuscular disorder. She calls her program “Stepping it up for CMT.”

As facilitator of the Johnstown, Pa., CMT Support and Action Group, Sweeney has raised awareness by creating CMT fundraising activities, including benefit softball tournaments, the CMTA’s “Archy Cookbook,” organizing a fishing derby and her school program, which she will share with the group.
Sweeney is a CMT patient herself and a mother of two, including a daughter who has inherited CMT. CMT is the most commonly inherited neuromuscular disease affecting an estimated 2.6 million people worldwide — including about 250 who live within 50 miles of Easton.

The public is invited to this meeting from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 7 at the Talbot County Free Library.
