Memory and suggestions

I have memory issues such as forgetting what I was going to do or with wording. I'll forget words that I'd use every day. I hate to misspell words and a big one I'll do is phone. I'll spell it fone and you can't spell check that. Or I'll go to do something and end up in my bedroom wondering what I'm doing there. I've talked to others that have this same symptoms. It really ticks me off to walk further than I have to because it's painful to walk and although I uses crutches their not easy in a house so I use a cane.

I belong to another support site for another injury I have and there are memory games that people put on that I wonder if it would be useful on here. I don't know how to suggest that. But in their forums they have a general forum and then other ones. So it would be hard to post something like that on here.

But and example of a game would be name a song using just one of the words from a the previous song listed. Something to make you think. Like Yellow Rose Of Texas, then the next person might say Yellow Submarine and so on.

Maybe not a lot of people as I think have memory problems like I do. It's just a suggestion anyway. They also will have post the next video and it can be of anything. This wouldn't be as much helpful but it was fun but some of the videos were also informative as to the injury I have and some were just music videos or something funny.

I'd be more interested in memory games for me but I can get on that site and do them. I just thought it could be useful to others on here. But also there were suggestions of dealing with pain and I'd find different artists that were giving away music for free and post links as to how to get them. Some of the music was peaceful and some was dance. Everyone has a different type of genre that helps them get their mid off of pain. I'm not sure I'd be up to that task again but I think music is such a great healer for pain.

Anyway it is just a suggestion. I don't know who would implement this or who to suggest it to.

I even had an artist come to a home concert for me for free and wanted to (Ok losing words to explain) best way to try is Skype it but use a link so anyone that was on the site could watch the concert for free because he knew there are so many people that can't get out to see concerts so he was offering to do it for the people on the site. Unfortunately the person that runs the site didn't think music was much of a pain healer and wouldn't promote it.

Thought this would be a good discussion as we all go through so much........................

A great site for memory and brain training is Lumosity.com. I've used it in the past, and when I signed up it wasn't very expensive. They even have a free version, last time I checked.

Hope you get some help with improving your memory. I know it's frustrating!

The memory loss is worse when you are taking Lyrica. It is so frustrating when you start to say something then the words seem to disappear out your head. I have tried memory games but must confess they get me even more rattled when I can not remember the answers. Here is hoping we all have a day we remember.

My memory has changed too. Sometimes I can't get it in the first place. At some point everyday I have done too much and can't take in one more thing, including listening. I have gotten really good at looking like I am listening. When I try and talk about anything important when I am tired it hardly works out, like in my Happy New Year's wish to all. lol. Communicating at so many levels has gotten harder and I think I avoid social situations to avoid it which makes me worse. I have been trying to exercise my brain. I tried learning a new language. It's supposed to help build new brain cells. So if you need me to tell someone to take your luggage to the room in Italian, I am your girl. I found this good thinking kit by Marbles the brain store. It has 52 cards with exercises and tips. For example, today's card tip is to do a visual puzzle like I Spy and play a computer game. They give a riddle too.

I'm the part of the bird that's not in the sky. I can swim in the ocean and yet remain dry. What am I?

A duck?

Ok mabes I know the answer I"ll let people keep guessing but it's a good one and I wonder if anyone will get it.

Do you know this one?

You use a knife to slice my head and weep beside me when I am dead. What am I?

An Onion.

A Shadow

Yes I knew your answer manes and onion is the correct answer to mine.. Anyone else have a mind riddle?

I am posting these exercises because I practiced them both for recovery. This is a (tactile) memory tip but doubles as therapy for those with hyper-sensitivity. Fill a bucket or basket with common objects around the house, place a cloth on top or turn your head and identify the objects using your sense of touch. We also buried the objects in sand which really made me cringe. It really worked. I remember running water was another tough one to overcome.

For coordination, you can sit for this if you have to, balance a book on your head for 5 minutes. Try walking, now backwards.

Riddle: I have many feathers to help me fly. I have a body and head, I'm not alive. It is your strength which determines how far I go. You can hold me in your hand, but never throw. What am I?

Your suggestions are wonderful. I hope more people will join in with suggestions. I like the exercise of filling the basket. I'll have to figure out a different balance coordination or have to wait until after I start treatment since I can't sit for long periods and have neck problems. I wonder how many people have the pain of sitting as I do? Wonderful suggestions though.

Ok I think your answer is an arrow, but you could throw it but you shouldn't because it's used to shoot and throwing wouldn't work. So I'm not surer if I guessed it correct. Let me know................

Here is my riddle. What goes down in the cellar with 4 legs and comes back up with 8?

(I think this is an easy one if you think about it!)

Thanks. You are right! I'm thinking about yours and still don't know.

Well since nobody has guessed and doesn't seem to be quite interested in this I'll just give the answer.

Here is my riddle. What goes down in the cellar with 4 legs and comes back up with 8? A mouser ( a cat gets a mouse so there is the 8 legs ha) Thanks mabes, I have enjoyed playing this. I wish more would have joined in. If you want to add another I'd still be glad to play, Memory is so hard for a lot of us so I don't understand why people wouldn't try. Maybe the riddles are to hard. Maybe we can try something new and see if anyone joins in. The music game where you name a song using one word in the song the person listed before you. This can get tricky and it really makes you have to think. Sometimes it will be very easy and you might think of a song right off the bat and sometimes it can take awhile to come up with a song. Anyway it keeps the mind thinking and thats what we need to do. It's also good to add the artist so we know nobody is cheating making up a song. You can try to also make it hard.

So it goes like this. Example: Anytime (Mary Griffin)

Nest person might say Anytime You Need Friend (Mariah Carey)

So here we go.

My song is: I Surrender (Celine Dion)
