Afternoon y'all! I have learned to live with what's left from my bout with GBS, however I am experiencing serious night time cramps in my calves, quads and buttocks muscles. I have researched this and found I should drink a lot of water which I do, potassium, calcium and magnesium are also listed as helpful. My recent blood work shows I am okay on all of these. I take gabapentin, which I do not fine useful. Any one have these night time cramps and found anything helpful. Thanks
I have the same cramping most nights, sometimes all night. I quickly discovered there is no quick fix so I take an extra strength Aleve and I use ice and/or heat, depending on what feels right in that moment. Sadly, there isn't much more that makes me feel better. I know it isn't much but hopefully it helps a little!
Thanks Lindsey! I'll try the EX Aleve with some icy hot. Have a great evening! David

While it sounds strange, vinegar acts quickly and the effect lasts for hours. There is science behind it http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19997012. The less diluted the vinegar the faster it acts. About a tablespoon ( I use cider vinegar but I don't think it matters) in a little bit of fruit juice. Pickle juice is too diluted to do much good.
I rub lemongrass essential oil on my calves. Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar also.
Kathy....what dosage of Amitriptyline do you take and what side effects do you experience.....I research this yesterday and really want to hear from someone that uses it. Thanks and have a great day!! David

I find that vitamin B12 (sublingual) helps mine.
I am on Amitriptyline 50 mg at bedtime, it helps so much! It turns my brain off at night and helps with pain throughout as I sleep. The only side effect I have is a dry mouth in the mornings, so I drink alot of water. Usually it doesnt effect me later in the day. Hope you get some relief! Of course you may have different side effects than me, but it is worth the try. :)
I am probably not much help here, but I can tell you that I periodically have bouts of cramping. The other thing I experience is aching pain in my back, thighs, and lower legs. I learned that it is likely related to my new hypothyroid disorder. Anyone who has experienced an autoimmune disorder, like GBS, is at higher risk for hypothyroid. The other thing I learned is that amitriptyline 50mg is used at night to assist with pain. I didn’t think much of it at first, but I stopped taking it for a while and discovered my pain got a lot worse. When the pain worsened, it felt more cramp-like. I’m not really noticing any side effects.
Hi Kathy, yes, gabapentin is for people with diabetes who have neuropathy. Gabapentin is also used for GBS pain because it too is a neuropathy pain. Gabapentin is also used for seizure disorders. All of these conditions are similar in that it is a dysfunction of the nerves.

cannabis will limit or stop leg spasms. also CIDP has autonomic dysfunction associated with it and that in turn causes muscle pain.
