My family is affected by cmt icluding my grandads family, my mum (not so much) and my twin brother. I am a 16 year old who suffers with health anxiety and would just like to know what people think of my symptoms.
For the past few months ive noticed a weird feeling in my left leg which is currently getting worse. I also have a curve in the inner leg between the ankle and calf which was not there before and is different to my right leg.
I also have alot of pain, fatigue and tightness in my left leg along with a feeling as though my little toe has gone dead or had something covering it and my walking feels awkward in my left leg.
I am also concerened about a motor neurone disease such as als which hightems my anxiety.
I have had a neurological exam where they said there was no sign of clinical weakness, normal babinski however symmetric tendon reflexes.
Is it possible for cmt to start in one leg?
I will also add images of my legs to see what you think 10-image.jpg (187 KB)
Personally I think if you feel you should be tested, there is a good case for being tested. Was your neurological exam before or after the symptoms in your leg started? An approach could be to present the symptoms with your family history to the physician and then see where that leads.
Remember, physicians are specialists in medicine but we are specialists on our own bodies so learning to be your own advocate is important. And sometimes you may have to go to a few before you find a physician who is willing to be your partner in this journey.
I had a weird feeling in my leg and arm at the time of the exam and the neuro said she didnt think it was anything sinister . But now it is just gradually getting worse and my little toe feels numb. I have spoken to my mum about the chances of me having cmt and she said she doesnt know so i said that i want to be tested for it. However this will not be until after my mri which i was referred to for reassurance.
So many people are worried about being labeled with a condition. lf you are not one of those, get tested as much as possible for your own peace of mind, providing your family can afford the testing. Good luck to you.
