I'm in my 10th year of CIDP, and have weakness and mucho pain in my lower legs. No pain in my upper extremities, and negligible weakness. Last night, I did some upper arm aerobics with an exercise device called a speed bag. It is an interesting contraption, in that it doesn't look at all like a conventional speed bag. But when you use it, the arm motions are quite similar, minus the impact. It doesn't take long for the heart to start pumping and breathing more rapid. I spent about 5 minutes with it, with breaks.
It was great, no complaints. But today, I was wiped out and could barely get out of bed. When I finally did get up, I felt weak and like I was going to catch cold or flu. I am used to the idea that if I do too much walking one day, I will have more pain in the days that follow. It takes a week or more, sometimes, for my pain to get back to the same level as before.
Did something similar happen with my upper arms? They don't have any pain, as usual, but the level of fatigue I experienced was quite unusual for me.
Do you think that I should expect this if I were to continue my upper body aerobic routine?
I just don't even try to do aerobic exercise anymore. I can still walk my dog but other than that even walking up stairs leaves me out of breath. Has anyone tried a dry sauna. I'm taking a pulse steroid therapy regiment that is leaving me bloated and am thinking a dry sauna might help reduce the extra water weight I'm carrying.
Hi Larry, the punching bag sounds fun. I am 7 years in. Stick with it. Maybe break it up into morning and afternoon. You have to pull back so you can do it again tomorrow. It took 6 months but I can go 45 minutes straight of heavy work outs. I was where you are now. It gets better.
I do saunas often. I started at 10 min and worked up to 20. At 30 minutes I feel sick all the next day. But at 20 I have more energy than when I don't do it at all. I try to do 3 a week.
