Did you know that there are different anesthesia procedures for those with CMT?

No!!!!!

My hip surgeon was concerned that l have a full cardiac clearance before surgery. He also wanted some kind of other testing done but waited too late to ask before my first hip. He made sure that the anesthesia guy kept a close eye on me.

for my last surgery on my shoulder, l had a lot of difficulty for a few days because of the nerve block in the shoulder. l limited my breathing. l felt like someone was laying on my chest all the time for about 3 days.

Hi Tami,

Sounds like you’ve been through the ringer, girlfriend! I’m hoping you’re finished with surgery now! You should have asked for ‘bionic’ replacement parts! As good as it is to hear from all of you, it’s so sad that it’s related to suffering!

Glad to hear that they kept an eye on you during, but then to have such problems after.

In one of the other articles on this topic, the patient was given ONLY an IV anesthetic.

I always ask for that device that you blow into to move balls through a tube, this helps clear the gas that settles on the lungs. I’ll put a link up later when I’m on the laptop. I still have one somewhere’.

I know I need to just go get an MRI of my right hip! Yes, I have been procrastinating this.

Take good care of yourself!

Susan

Tami, why all these surgeries? Do you have CMT? Hope you are doing better now!

Good topic; to make everyone aware; cardio affected; and even dentists need to be aware as the drugs used for those types of locals etc. "laughing gas" should NEVER be used! Bad bad bad for CMT'r.My daughter had "spinal Block" for child birth and definently worse with lower back and legs since that time.

Hi guys I have had more operations than hot dinners in my life, from gas to spinal block and have never had a problem. Yeah sometimes the surgeon may have concerns but the are just be over concerned and basically covering their own back. Perhaps I’m lucky but ive never had any problem with anesthesia and I’m talking at least 25+ visits to the table.
Hope this helps.
