What state? Texas?
Oklahoma
Oh, cause my mother was injured in a Texas hospital. She was left to live like a child all due to hospital error. We could not sue to get much money to help with her medical expenses because of the tort reform law that protects government hospitals from litigation. It really was unfair and unjust to say the least. She was left to go it on her own without being compensated for her injury.
The same thing happened here in Oklahoma. All in an effort to protect the medical field. There is not enough money in it for the lawyers now so they won't even file a claim. And it is the people who are really hurt that are affected.

Up to $250,000 can be awarded if you can prove a flu shot or other vaccine caused your chronic /disabling health problem. And the US government pays the legal fees. This is paid for with your tax dollars to the federal government.
They don't pay out that much. Trust me. I went through a vaccine lawyer. It is very hard to prove even it you have a text book case. The government does not want to pay out much and they lowball you. You would have to be so sick that you could not get out of bed for them to pay that much. If you are like me and CIDP has caused you a lot of problems but you are doing well in IVIG so you are working and getting by they look at your life and base the settlement on your current health and don't look at what if's down the way when IVIG stops working, etc. It was very frustrating. You are kind of pushed to settle on one of their low offers or go to lengthly litigation that could take up to 10 years. And at that point they obtain all kinds of specialists that will be used against you and they will scrutinize every thing in your medical past for 3 years prior to the vaccine to point a finger at anything else but the vaccine. Even a minor cold could be said to have caused the CIDP. Then if you did not take the earlier settlement and the judge and specialists rule against you, then you are completely out and don't get a thing. So please do take action but don't have expectations of getting $250,000. It won't happen.
So in my case it would not work out real well, as I have had the flu shot every year, only had 6 bottles of IVIG and can't tolerate it, so have been on medication to control the pain. And now they say I am in remission, but the center of excellence refers me to the Mayo Clinic.
I find being ill to be such a merry-go-round. Well we will see if the Mayo Clinic thinks that the flu shots could have triggered this mess, as it is one of the many questions on my list to ask.
Congress has set up a fund for people who get a flu shot, then develop Guillina-Barre. That should answer the question about getting a flu shot

For most people I think flu shots are great, and in general I am very pro-vaccination. However, CIDP is closely related to the Gullaine-Barre virus and this is a known complication / side effect of the flu shot. So I skip flu shots. Although it may be worth noting that I work from home and am not going into a flu-ridden office every day and my immediate family always gets their shots so I am a bit more insulated. Just my .02.
Hi,
Could someone post on here when any news comes up about Congress and GB link please? I'm over in little old UK!

Stopped getting them years ago at the advise of many medical professionals. The paperwork I've seen always has:
4. Has the person to be vaccinated ever had Guillain-Barré syndrome? It is prudent to avoid vaccinating persons who are not at high risk for severe influenza complications (see source 3) but who are known to have developed Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) within 6 weeks after receiving a previous influenza vaccination. As an alternative, physicians might consider using influenza antiviral chemoprophylaxis for these persons. Although data are limited, the established benefits of influenza vaccination for the majority of persons who have a history of GBS, and who are at high risk for severe complications from influenza, justify yearly vaccination.
Not taking a chance with my CIDP getting any worse..
My first doctor told me never to have a flu shot because of the CIDP
I believe he thought it could trigger the CIDP to flare up again.
I guess it depends on how bad your CIDP symptoms are and if you believe that the flu shot you are given will prevent the strain that may be going around.
My doctors are against me getting the flu shot…and I am also.
I am Convinced. No flu shots. Thank you all. This has been a great discussion.
I got CIDP within 2 wks of getting a Tdap shot so my doctor and I decided that I won't be getting anymore flu shots and I am a nurse who works at a hospital where they are mandatory unless you have legit medical reasons to not get them. I am on the front lines when it comes to being exposed to patients with the flu and I think b/c of all the IVIG is one of the reasons why I haven't gotten it so far. In fact, normally, I am sick every year from Oct through March and this past Oct to the present is the first year (also my first year with IVIG) that I haven't been sick with anything. I used to get sick and get over the virus and be well for a few days and then get sick with the next virus coming through. I was buying Puffs Plus by the case. I am not anti-vaccine, but as for me, I won't be getting anymore.
Same here! Within 2 weeks of flu shot the pins and needles started.
Plus I used to get everything going, until I started IVIG. I like the explanation someone has given saying we are given other people's immune systems in the IVIG, and therefore their 'cover'. Probably the ONLY positive thing about this awful condition :)
Newly diagnosed, my pins and needles happened 1.5 weeks within the first time flu shot. My MD believes it's connected. I won't be getting one.
I got my CIDP within 10 days of getting the H1N1 flu vaccine. So I have made the decision never to get another vaccine because I just don't want to take the chance of another immune attack triggered by a vaccine. My daughter will not be getting flu vaccines either as I really think the H1N1 is to blame for many people getting CIPD. I will however keep her up to date on her other childhood vaccine. But no H1N1 ever again! I too have not been sick a day since starting IVIG... it must be the cause of my immunity to flu and colds.
My Neurologist recommended that I get the Flu Shot, because getting the flu could put me into a huge relapse…
My Neurologist said that there is an increased risk with the flu shot with H1N1 included in it.
