I though I'd mention my chloresterol levels hit an alarming high about 3 years ago.The primary care doctor,GP,really did not want to give me statins due to the potential response which in some patients had been in other neurological conditions, to cause a relapse.
Diet was the only option. No butter, cheese or full-cream milk.No biscuits, cakes or milk chocolate.Substituted by a Cretan diet of small amounts of meat and fish, large quantities of salad, vegetables and fruit and gallons of olive oil.I accompanied this with good Scottish porridge oats.Outcome-I lost I went from 106 kgs to 75 in just under 4 months.I managed to walk 4 miles in one day.I looked so well my doctor told stop dieting so much-she was a lovely Indian doctor, who, shall we say,was built like Buddha.I remarked, physician, heal thyself.
Since then I've developed a drinking chocolate which I am limiting but it's eating cheese where I fall off the chloresterol wagon.
I've settled my weight at about 82-84 kgs, which is nicely within the BSI for normal weight.
I thought I'd post it because it really scared me at the time.I wish I had sorted my diet and weight much earlier.
I have had high cholesterol for 35 or more years… at one point it was death… however, I would take the statins with side effects… it was before I had cancer, that the doc tried statins againa and with the same results… muwcle weekness, pain as if though someone was ringing me out and I would just stop dead in my tracks … I could cry… I worked in a busy ER as a RN, the house doc was down there and told me to stop my med immediately… I did… I felt better, but the after my chemo tx etc. My weight was down, I was happy, I survived, I went back to work, but couldn’t make it… I ended up back in one of my rooms lol… and ended up with a dx of CIDP after several MD visits with several docs… I am now 100 percent diabled (officially retired according to my union) and have had ivig… my choleterol?? still up there … I am on fenofibrate now, not sure which are side effects vs CIDP. but I have improved in my leg nerves… I don’t type well any longer, fingers are finicky, so I appologize for my mistakes… thanks…
Statins drugs to help my Cholesterol levels is what caused my CIDP. Along with a healthy diet (no sugar and low carb intake) and red palm oil my levels are normal to near normal. I learned red palm oil will actually allow arterial build up to slowly dissolve. Now, just dealing with CIDP. I have been on IVIG infusions for 2 years now and have been getting steadily better. I have never noticed a 'relapse'.
