My Lyrica script was just filled as 'Pregabalin', so generic has arrived!

I cannot find anything on the net, but this is the first time this has arrived as generic. This could mean a big savings for you, be sure to talk to your Dr and Pharmacist!

This is NOT necessarily a good thing. Why? The FDA allows generics a +/- 24% scale of deviation from the amount of active ingredient in the name brand.

This means you may never know how much you are taking or getting.

And given that there are multiple manufacturers, multiple distributors, and thousands of pharmacies, you may never know ever how much you are going to get in this month's refill.

And -24% over a month, or even a week, can mean the difference between efficacy, wasted effort at best, and suffering & disaster at worst.

+ 24% can mean uncomfortable side effects, including overdose, as you, your doctor, and any emergency workers may never know how much you are taking versus getting.

And if you get a pill from a different manufacturer, the difference from last month's dosage could be as much as +/-48%.

This means 1/2 as much again, or only 1/2 of what your doctor prescribed.

Under these conditions and with personal experience with multiple medications, stay with the name brands as long as you can.

If you must buy generics, and the pill you get this month looks in any way different from the one's you are used to seeing, find out why. If it is a different manufacturer, your experience will likley be different with that generic medication.

Cheaper is not always better.

Thanks for the info Eric!

This particular med is still manufactured by Pfizer, but I can not as yet find any info on it, but I'm sure the pharmacy can tell me more. I know that when Opana went generic, I asked about it and the difference with that manufacturer was 2%, but the savings was over $100.00!

One of my nurse friends seems to think that since this med still has the Pfizer capsule with name, it is still actually Lyrica, just not packaged or named as such, so not sure!
