Which works best for your nerve pain? I started with Neurontin, but it made me 'reel' like I was inside a spinning top. Lyrica can cause fluid retention, but I don't have the spinning effect.
How about you?

Lyrica caused my legs to swell. Neurontin so far has not.
I have only been prescribed neurontin. Right now I reduced my amount as I moved from Pa to Kansas and my Medicaid is not in place yet. I needed to do this,so I would at least have some meds to get me through. I could never pay for my neurontin myself. I have noticed more spinning since I reduced my amount. I have always felt that neurontin wasn’t doing anything until I needed to reduce it. Now I really notice a change. I wish I could answer your question about Lyrica. Honestly,I wish I never had to take another pill again! Good luck with that huh! Lol
SK ;
Neurontin, for me, doesn't do anything except, makes me turn into a psychological monster. And Lyrica
just puts my whole body into a periodic paralysis. The only drug that seems to work for my body is Elavil,
and just recently, I found out that this is a psyhciatric drug. B.S., I've been taking this for years, and there
is not a darn thing wrong with my mind. My legs are the problem, not my mind.
Jayme
Neither one, the give me hot flashes. I stick with hydrocodine.

Elavil, the brand name for the psychiatric use for the drug called Amatriptyline, is a psychiatric drug at MUCH HIGHER levels than are prescribed for pain control.
It was first given to me by my psychiatrist.
It's side effects @ 100mg were too much for me.

Hey Jayme,
I know a lot of people on the Fibromylagia site take Elavil, it is prescribed for chronic pain. I was first given Savella for pain and it helped! Problem was that after a while I started to shake/quake uncontrollably, so we did the withdrawl, and no other drug of this type was offered again!
My sister in law has some pretty nasty neuropathy and bone pain after a fall on a wet kitchen floor, needing her neck fused, she swears by the Savella for pain! It's considered an antidepressant!
Eric, I know, that's a really strong med! I couldn't tolerate ti either!
Oh I know Toby, makes my feet, legs, and hands swell sometimes, but it really helps the nerver pain, especially that wicked Sciatica!
Karen, my Rheum and I were just talking about the same thing. How you don't always realize how much a med helps until you either cut down the dose or discontinue it all together! Hopefully you can change all of that over smoothly!
Oh Dave, hot flashes are the pits! Glad that Codeine works for you though! Sometimes the trial and error is maddening until you can find the right one!
Since someone brought up the hot flashes problem,I have a question. Which drugs are the worst culprits for this problem? I tend to have problems with being in a warm/hot climate. My recent move to Kansas is really wreaking havoc with my heat tolerance. Is anyone else bothered by the heat? I don’t seem to be able to tolerate it at all. I have been this way all of my life.

Doesn't seem like much out there, guess you have to look up each drug individually!
I've been taking Gabapentin / Neurontin for five years and really love it. It did make me a zombie until I got use to it. Start out at 4 pills a day (100mg) x 4 = (400 mg total) per day. I am at 1600 mgs per day and still have pain but it's a 5 instead of ten on the pain scale. The zombie affect is gone but I never was real smart anyhow, so not much difference? That's what my wife says?
Take b12 everyday for nerve pain also. Made a big difference for me. I heard smoking pot helps immensely but Missouri / mizzery don't have the medicinal marijuana thing yet and probably won't in my lifetime?
Hi Buck,
LOL! Well, if your wife says you're not real smart, then she must love you for your warm sense of humor!
I think B12 is good for just about everything! I could probably use a truckload of it right about now!
You know it's crazy that only some states have successfully adopted the medical marijuana, and it is still illegal on a federal level. I have a friend in Oregon with Fibromyalgia, and Chronic Fatigue Snydrome who has difficulty with most meds, who was prescribe this, and she said it really helps her! I'm a member of the 'whatever works' club! As far as me using it, from the experiences I had with it when I was young, it only made me paranoid and extremely hungry, so not sure I'd want it! I'm no expert on this, but she said that the medical stuff is different from what you get on the street?
I'm glad to know that the gaba works so well for you!
I have seen where they took the "paranoia" out of the drug on certain strands. I was like you and the paranoid trip wasn't worth the other trip!

I agree. I would rather use medicinal marijuana than hydrocodone. I hope Kansas changes their view soon.
Well, that 's good to hear! Seems to be better accepted in the medical community than narcotics! I'll tell you, you go to the ER and once they know you take a narcotic, even rarely, you are treated like a child molester! I'm about over all of that!
don't let them win. In many states you have a right to narcotic palliation if you have not been abusing it. I know about the phenomenon of people turning white when you hand them a script for (certain) narcotics, bt iof it works best for you, don't let them pursuade you away from what your gut tells you is right for you.
I take both, neurontin and narcotics, and I can say that they are NOT interchangeable.
Eric
Thanks Eric, I'd like to give them this pain for a few years, see what they would do! My worst pain is bone/joint pain, and even with what I have, sometimes it just does not even touch it!
No, I do not abuse them, I certainly don't relish taking any of this stuff!
Agreed. Also cannot get to full pain control, nor do I relish taking any of it.
Eric
It seems to be the latest witch hunt, and all fall in behind!
