Wheelchair

Hi,

I am looking for some advice/information regarding wheelchairs. My father was stuck with GBS in June 2013 and as of late he has yet to gain movement in his arms and he is unable to stand (but he was move his legs a bit). He is now breathing on his own (BIG good news) and my family are looking for ways to get him out into the fresh air. I have been asked by my sister to investigate electric wheelchairs for my father (I am in England and she is in New York).

Does anyone have any information of how to get an electric wheelchair that can be directed with the mouth? What are good ones? Possible charities/used wheelchair organisations etc.....

I have never had to look for electric wheelchairs so I am pretty much treading water in an ocean right now. Thanks!

I don't know wheelchairs, but here is a place to start looking: http://www.quickie-wheelchairs.com/wheelchair-parts/sunrise-medical/quickie-groove/electronics/specialty-controls-delphi/quickie-sip-n-puff-system

You might call several places and describe to them what you are looking for, then see what price options are available. Best of luck!

Cheers! I'll check this out.

I started with GBS in October 2013 and just got a wheelchair, it is helping to make my life easier. We got a Pronto and are very happy with it, our son is getting us a power lift installed on my truck so we can haul it. It weights 300#. So the challenge is to go away and remain able to get around. It was risky going to Walmart and wondering if a power chair would be available.
