Ivig approval

hey ya'll, glad to have found this forum! just going through a little tough time now with the insurance company. was getting ivig once a mos. for a long time and the doc. wanted to see if we could stretch the treatments out a little and see what we could get away with, so went to 1x every 6 weeks then 1x every 8 weeks, then the last time we did a ncv test the doc. says he wants me back on 1x every mos. because my arms and hands are doing worse by his calculations. well the insurance company is playing hardball and is making it hard for me to do this. the doctor is probably in the top 5 neuro musculars in va. but his word isn't good enough, lol not only that they rescinded my 1x every 8 weeks along with denying the 1x a mos. and threatened to not pay for my last treatment. anyone else get treated like this by the insurance companies? mine is cigna

I was in the medical insurance billing business for over 30 years. Insurance companies are in the business to make money, more often than not they deny claims hoping patients give up, please please please don't do that. They are going to make it hard for you, but you have the right to appeal several times and you can request a hearing. Get all your ducks in a row, all your medical records showing the treatments you have tried. ALWAYS document your conversations with the date, phone number and name of the claims handler you spoke to. I also recommend asking to speak with a supervisor. Keep your records well organized they can't stand it when you are prepared. If I can help in any way please let me know. Cigna is known to be difficult. Peace Nancy

thanks Nancy for the info! I think this bothers my DR. as much as it does me and he doesn't have the time on his hands to fight them in their little games like I do and unfortunately alot of what the insurance company wants doesn't involve me but my doctor and it is almost impossible to know what he has done and hasen't done because I am talking to his secretary and she can tell me anything to appease me at the time, the other thing is they are a doctor down right now as one of them has cancer and that has caused all their neuro's to be busier than normal.

Have you asked for a copy of your records, they (the doctor's office) are legally required to provide them to you. His chart notes should show the lengthening of time between treatments did not work for you. Have you asked your insurance if they approve the once a month treatment will they backdate their payments for the unpaid services?Peace Nancy
