I just wondered if any of you who are on Prednisone, long-term, could answer a question. Has anyone actually lost weight while on Prednisone? If so, how? Is there a special diet you could recommend? I'm back on Prednisone..and up to 40mgs; will stay at 60 until my Neuro evaluates me in a month. I went for a second opinion and the final assessment was CIDP. So whether or not it is CIDP or MADSAM, they've determined Prednisone is the most effective treatment. IVIG did not work as well as anticipated. He then went to pred, which worked a little better..but, after taking it for a little more than 2 months, my weight shot up. Now, I am afraid of adding more weight, and it really scares me. I also have steroid-induced Diabetes. Previous to my 2nd opinion visit, my Neuro tapered me off the Prednisone and introduced Immuran to my system. I got very sick on the Immuran, so he took me off it.
Any help you can offer re diet and preventing weight gain, would be greatly appreciated.
I would recomend reading "Eat to Live" by Joel Furman (I think I spelled his name correctly). More of a lifestyle change than a diet. I am getting ready to restart, and while I am not taking prednisone I recently quit smoking an regained 10 pounds. I got the book on Amazon for $10.00 and what he has to say makes a lot of sense. It also contains several days worth of easy recipes. The key is to keep an open. I figure I will just have to fix two meals. One for me and one for my wife, if she is not ready to start with me, but I am not ready to put on the wheight again.
Good luck as I know from prior experience what it was like with prednisone.
Thanks very much bteeter. I used to have that book- haven't read it for years. Now would be a good time to check it out of the library. My appetite on Prednisone is ravenous..and for high carbs. Have got to fight the urge, especially because of the diabetes. Thanks again for the "good luck." I need it.

Its all good, and with the book may help with you diabetes as well. We all need the luck. I just thank God my doc does not want to put me on prednisone. I was on lowdose 20mg daily for 4 years back in the mid 90's for my lungs, and hated the way it made me feel. Its bad enough that I can't feel my extremities most of the time. I'd like to be able to see them too, at least for as long as I can. Prednisone is a wonderful drug but, But I did not like what it did to my body.
