I really was never going to ask this question....haven't even mentioned it to my Neuro because it seems so crazy ..... but here it goes.....does anyone ever experience trouble opening their eye or eyes in the morning. I can hardly get my right eyelid open in the morning. I have to force it open, it's like the muscle doesn't work properly. strange I know. I just had to know if anyone else has experienced this ......thanks for not laughing.
no, your not crazy at all. I have had that symptom for the last 3 years.
honestly, i have no clue. I do have elevated spinal fluid pressure in my head which gets higher when i sleep so i thought it was that, but maybe it is the CIDP. sometimes up for 5-10 minutes before i can really open my eyes lol
I have problems moving my eyes. It’s like the muscle isn’t getting the signal to move left or right. Sometimes it then will have a spasm and move too rapidly just like my arms and legs. I attribute it all to CIDP since my eyes are healthy and it didn’t happen before I had it. Makes sense it affects your eyelids since they are muscle controlled also. You must let your doc know how this disease it affecting your eyes. Not too long ago they thought we all were making our symptoms up until science caught up!
My left eye stays dialated. The opthamologist says it's Aeid's pupil, not related to CIDP but I think it is.
My right eye is dialated, my neuro says it is related to CIDP. She wasn't surprised to see it.

The eye doc gave me eye drops that force the pupil to constrict, says if the good eye is unaffected then that confirms Aeid's pupil.

No, you are not crazy! I had the same problem. I still have no blink reflexes. I hear that people that started out with GBS report a lot of Eye problems. I first could not close my Eyes all the way, than I could not open them normaly, than I experienced double vision and light sensativity. When I went to the Mayo clinic they checked my optical nerve and blink reflexes. The nerve was swollen and has gotten better over past 6 months. I don't think anything is funny about the whole syndrome. I am glad you ask questions, thats how others get better help!
My husband couldn't shut his eyes when he had Guillian Berre' before he got CIDP>
Hi Thumper, I have Crohns Disease as well as CIDP and I had the swollen eyelid too. The eye doctor told me it was a very common autoimmune reaction. He said I had some eczema on the lid as well. He told me use over the counter hydrocortizone on the lid & it went away in about 4 days. I don’t know if yours is the same but I hope that helps. Jo
