I felt a little better today, but the heat and humidity quickly zapped that out of me, even being out for a few minutes! Whew! Some days I'm just such a light weight! Can you relate?
Oh man does it every get to me! It's a holiday, so that means the extended family will be HERE. We had a storm last night, so there was a lot of crap to get out of the pool. I did NOT want to go to all the trouble of vacuuming, so I used the skimmer to get the crap out. Then my wife wanted me to hose out the many, many spider webs that have suddenly formed in our gazebo. I could not have been any wetter if I had hosed myself down. Then I came in and my wife was busy cleaning downstairs (we live in a split level) and when I got upstairs allegedly heading to the shower, I saw how much cat hair was on the couch in the upstairs living room, so I got out the vacuum up there and did that for her upstairs. In a very air conditioned house, I was even more drenched by the time I was done. I still had to shower and get down to make more items for the BBQ! By the time they all came, I could barely stand at the grill to cook. I am sitting with my feet up and boy are they aching. BUT I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT! I WOULD NOT HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY! I love my family and love having them come to MY house! Hope everyone had a great day, despite the weather and despite what CMT does to us! Mark
Hey Mark!
What a guy! Vacuuming the couch after the pool cleaning, and gazebo without needing to be asked! I think that's great!
I know, my granddaughter's other half just pressure washed our front porch for spider webs, bee/wasp combs, and I'll tell you, you turn around a day or two later and they're back, I mean like it was never done! UGH!
My son took my grandson on a 4 wheeling trip, otherwise we would have had them all here for a lunch or dinner too, but was just as well it turned out like it did, I've been really struggling the last week! Those inevitable bad days last longer and are harder to recover from!
I was only out a few times for a few minutes today, but looked like I jumped in a pool fully clothed!
Glad you had such a good time! Take care to take it easy, if you can!
Well, actually she had been up early working like a white tornado on the main floor while I slept and it was all MY family coming (as usual, her family is in the MW). I had to do something, she starts a new job tomorrow to boot! So I did what I could to help and not have it all fall on her. I made potato salad last night (because NO ONE can make it like me, I am such a control freak) and today made deviled eggs and prepped beer brats that I cooked on the grill. We had such a good time and such good food. All worth it.
Tonight I am doing something very different for me. I have avoided any real pain meds for my CMT, but the nerve pain in my feet has been getting worse and worse. I got a script for lidocaine patches so tonight is my first time. I cut one in half and put it on each foot. I hope it lets me sleep!
Sounds great about your porch getting the power wash. I have not had mine out in about 3 years. I really want to get it out, but once it is out and you get started, you never want to stop! It is addictive!

Mark, it sounds like you make a really good couple! Being able to work well together is a big thing, no matter whose family it is! I married a great guy, but he is NOT one to cook or clean, he takes care of the outside, and even then, sometimes I have to WAIT, and WAIT, and WAIT to get things done, even with help, he has his own ideas about priorities!
My husband was SO excited when he got this power washer he came home and decided to wash the wooden garage doors down first thing, well, let me tell you, he used so much POWER, he not only took the paint off, but looked like he cut into them with a blow torch! A little enthusiasm with those goes a LONG WAY! ha! Might as well laugh about it! They have since been replaced! He made them! He is a fantastic carpenter! Good thing!
Laughing with this one! Yes, I made some of the same mistakes and had to learn to tame my aim!
I am doing less and less outside. I cut the grass the first day we lived here and never again. Hired a lawn service immediately after. This year had him do all the hedge and decorative bush trimming. He also does the fall leaf cleaning. We took out a lot of the trees in the yard, so there is more sun and less green stuff and mold that grows around, so less need to power wash. I will not do the house anymore like I used to, so we had someone come last year. When they do it, it can last a couple years. Not sure why when I did it, I had to repeat it every year.
I DO have hard time in hot/humid temps and feels like I'm in Slow motion and no energy; can't seem to get much done even though I do push myself and muddle through. Muscles and nerves are affected by temps but especially heat for me. I can do better in cooler temps. I relate, my hubby is great but we have our own time frame and priority and they do not coincide! LOL I do all house chores even now with my limits but we did make one level even though he fought me about wanting a second story. But, if I'm the one cleaning and cannot feel good about upstairs that doesn't get cleaned as often due to my not being good on stairs, then I'm not gonna have it! I just cleaned the house again after having all three grandchildren over Saturday and one over night. But, I'm a family person too and the benefits to my emotional well being compared to the physical strain to prepare and then clean up after having my family share time here is well worth it! I do have to PACE and maintain rather than super clean! Need my windows cleaned porches from the barn swallows and garage cleaned after grasshoppers all summer but those have to be done as I get time and when energy is not being pushed somewhere else.
You are not a light weight! Lol! I have moved recently to Kansas from Pa. I cannot tolerate the heat at all!! I feel just as you do. I recently went on a day trip and for two days after I was very ill from being in the heat. I think it is a combo of CMT and the drugs we take. I have seriously thought to move back, but my son would be devastated.
Today was not a good day here either. High humidity . Cant stay outdoors very long. I live in swamp country Louisiana.
I used to live in Cincinnati & most summers were very, very humid. Winters are not that snowy there compared to the rest of Ohio but they are grey, damp & dismal. Spring lasts about 1 month it seems. October is usually as wonderful as weather can be anywhere.
So when it came time to retire I chose Northern Colorado. I have to say I made a great choice for me. Very low humidity without the oppressive heat of the southwest, 72% of the days are sunny( higher % than Florida & just edges out San Diego) Winters are actually fairly mild on the front range although we can get some bad snow storms--the next few days will usually be sunny & between 50-60--not all the time though.
So I have CMT- trouble with fatigue & walking , but at least the weather doesn't get me down very often.
I have met a lot of folks who retired here because of the sunshine & low humidity--many from St. Louis, Dallas, Houston & some who come for milder winters from --Minneapolis, New England area,Chicago.
All the best to everyone. Hope you all have a good day.
Hi Ken,
I never considered Northern Colorado, though it is surely beautiful! I've spent enough time in Florida to know it would not be a choice, the storms there are as devastating as any snow storm, or thunderstorm here, and probably happen more often than here in MD or there in CO!
Speaking of storms, we have lost power more and more often due to one type of storm or another, my husband is considering a generator large enough to run both refrigerators, freezer and heat or cool a room or two at a time. We are total electric down to the pump on the well, so when it goes down, everything is down! They are propane fueled, so no running for gasoline like the portable one he has. Not sure of total cost yet, but seems possible!
Anymore the severe thunderstorms of summer bother me as much as the snow storms as long as I don't have to be out for long. I think it's down to the humidity and barometric pressure really, they surely do a number on me!
Thanks for the input! I like CO and the people, but unless I can move my son and grand kids out with us, we'll tough it out, I guess!
Wishing you well,
SK
Martha, I have always wanted to visit New Orleans, off season from the madness, of course. My husband loves it there and has a few good buddies from his Army days, but my traveling days are behind me, it's difficult enough to ride in a car for 30 minutes, and when you cannot sleep in just any bed, or sit in just any chair, you would just rather stay home! NEVER thought I'd ever say that!
I'm sure the humidity would bother me, but would love to go see those beautiful old homes and buildings, and eat some of your marvelous food!
I thought it was just me who had issues with humidity! The pain gets so much worse when the humidity spikes!!!
I complained to the doc once about this and the way he explained it is with nerves shorting out dampness or moisture in air will affect it; think of a short in an electric wire. . .if you misted water into the air around it would it not spark; so, he says the electrical system in the body is reacting with more moisture in the air and "sizzling". I have had hard times sleeping in nights of humid weather. My arms felt like ants stinging me all over. I learned to take a cold pack to bed and use it to calm the sizzles. Also, can take a colder shower to help calm them; Change in signals helps to divert those uncomfortable times.
I can’t stand heat and humidity! I thought that it was me,but the idea of an electrical short makes sense. Being in Kansas is so hard for me due to the weather. I guess people just assume that if you have pain that heat will help.I always felt better in Pa. because the weather is much cooler year round. Extremes of any kind are not good, too. I just wilt during the summer. I become a shut in to avoid the sweating and exhaustion I feel. Nice to know that I am not alone or just plain crazy! Lol!
I hear you on knowing you aren't crazy; I went until age 40 wondering why I was so different and kept my quirks to myself LOL Now I know "normal" is just a setting on a dryer no one uses anyway! LOL Normal for us is way out there but for us it's just as "normal"; we have our own little community; Sad to say it is growing but at least we are NOT alone! :)
My wife has been on a kick for years that when the kids are grown and gone, we will move to Florida. Well, the "baby" started high school, and the time seems to be closer than I ever imagined. But I have always told her, I just do not think I can do that humidity! Well, this June we took our first ever "just us" vacation in Las Vegas. Yes, Vegas in June. Let me tell you, 108 there is WAY different than 90 in NJ or Florida. I could walk comfortably up and down The Strip. FL or NJ, I would have been dying. The humidity is HUGE with my CMT!
Oh I agree! My Rheumatologist even suggested I would do better in dry climates, but unless I can get my son to move there with the grand kids, the pain of missing them would be worse than anything these autoimmune could possibly throw my way!
It is cooling here already, which is very unusual, usually we are with A/Cs at full blast and they are not even on, we are grabbing sweaters and long pants already, even my husband, and he LOVES cool weather!
